Iran opened a Persian language learning center in Erbil on Monday, in coordination with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), aiming to strengthen cultural, academic, and research ties between the two sides, the Iranian Consul General in Erbil told Rudaw.

“There was a demand from the Kurdistan Region, especially from researchers and scholars who use Persian-language sources, to learn the language. This center was established through coordination between both sides,” said Faramarz Asadi.

The Iranian Consul General in Erbil announced the event through Rudaw Media Network.

“We have common grounds in many areas - academic, scientific, commercial, and tourism. There is constant movement between our people and the Kurdistan Region, and there are many connections between us,” he said.

The center will receive anyone who wishes to learn the language, “especially university students,” according to Asadi.

As for the instructors at the center, Asadi said that “we have carefully selected individuals familiar with both Kurdish and Persian languages. We also benefit from the Persian language departments in various universities of the Kurdistan Region and from professors of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

The center already has another branch in the eastern Sulaimani province.

Asadi added that regarding other provinces, “It depends on the requests of the people and the local authorities. If there is a demand, we are ready.”

The Kurdistan Region and Iran enjoy good ties.
