Rwanga Foundation Brings 24-Hour Solar Power to Fourth Kurdistan Region Village

The Rwanga Foundation announced Wednesday it has successfully delivered continuous electricity to another rural community in the Kurdistan Region through its expanding Clean Energy Project, marking a significant step in addressing the area's persistent power shortages.

Sheikh Wasman village in Erbil province has become the fourth settlement to receive round-the-clock electricity through the initiative. The foundation installed solar power systems across 68 homes along with the village's mosque, school, health center, and community hall, providing a total daily supply of 1,237 amperes.

Residents Welcome End to Power Crisis

Kamal Osman, a 73-year-old villager, described the transformation in living conditions following the installation. He explained that previous electricity shortages had made daily life extremely difficult, with homes remaining dark for extended periods.

Another resident, Gulnas Sulaiman, emphasized the critical nature of reliable power for the community, noting that two chemical weapons survivors in the village require constant oxygen therapy that depends on uninterrupted electricity supply.

Project Encourages Return of Displaced Families

Hassan Shekh Aladin, Executive Director of Rwanga Foundation, revealed that multiple families have returned to their ancestral villages after learning about the resolved electricity situation. He stated the project demonstrates that providing essential services can successfully stabilize rural populations and protect food security across Kurdistan.

Idris Nechirvan Barzani, President and Founder of Rwanga Foundation, attended Wednesday's completion ceremony to mark the milestone.

Expanding Clean Energy Initiative

Over a seven-month period this year, the Rwanga Foundation's Clean Energy Project has delivered 3,117 amperes of electricity to 183 households across four villages throughout the Kurdistan Region. The solar-powered initiative represents a sustainable solution to chronic power shortages that have plagued rural communities for years.

Village resident Khidir Hamadamin acknowledged that while power interruptions had previously been a constant challenge, the new solar infrastructure has effectively eliminated the problem for Sheikh Wasman.
